Ultrasonographic features of tumor lesions in 15 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and 18 with metastatic liver cancer were analyzed. Hepatocellular carcinomas and metastatic liver cancers originating from the gastrointestinal tract were frequently hyper-echoic. Bull's-eye (target sign) pattern was spesific for metastases. Most of metastatic liver cancers showed hypoechoic pattern. These results indicate that ultrasonography is useful for the dillerantial di-agnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and metastatic liver cancer.
