The sonographic patterns of 67 fibroadenotnas and 40 breast carcinomas were studied. All lesions exhibited low-intensity. Fibroadenomas had homogeneus internal echoe distribution in 89.6% of cases, smooth contours in 91% of cases, at least moderately acoustic enhacement in 81% of cases. Malignam lesions had heterogeneus echotexture in 85% of cases, irregular contours in 80% of cases, at least moderately acoustic shadow in 90% of cases. In geometric analysis of tumors, the mean ratio of the length to the anıeroposterior diameter of fibroadenomas was 1.89 ± 0.52, of carcinomas 1.03 ± 0.21, indicating an elongation along the general orientation of the breast tissue planes and statistically signıficant difference between both values were determined.
