Visual Fixation in Reading Active and Passive Verbs

Durations of visual fixation in reading of passive and active verbs are measured by EOG method. Average fixation durations are found to be 307±10 ms, and 287±21 ms. for passive and active verbs respectively. These results are evaluated in the light of the relevant literature. Longer duration offixations in passive verbs is considered to result from the fact that the passive verbs have more semantic contain (han the active ones.
