It is aimed to determine of antibiotic susceptibility ratios and isolated bacteria in urine samples of Patients who admitted to urology clinic with symptoms of urinary tract infection in this study. Urine samples of 5162 patients who admitted to the hospital between July 2010 and July 2013 and have urinary tract infection symptoms were studied in order to evaluate cultures and antibiotic susceptibility test. All urine samples were inoculated on eosin methylene blue (EMB) agar and 5% blood agar. The isolated bacteria were identified by using conventional methods. Antibiotic susceptibility tests were performed by disk diffusion method. The bacteria were isolated in 759 (14.7%) of 5162 urine sample. The most frequently isolated bacteria (62.6%) were E.coli in urine samples. Enterococcus spp. (10.8%), Proteus spp. (6.9%), Enterobacter spp. (6.4%), Klebsiella spp. (6%) and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) (2.8%) respectively followed these bacteria. While all isolated strains of Proteus spp. and Klebsiella spp. were susceptible to imipenem, Proteus spp. Enterobacter spp. and Klebsiella spp. susceptibility percentage to ampicillin and sefalotin with the least of susceptibility ratio were observed to be 73% to 59.4% respectively. While all isolated strains of Enterococcus spp. were susceptible to linezolid, resistance ratio of nitrofurantoin, penicillin, and erythromycin were found to be 7.6%, 17.0%, and 28.3% respectively. In the treatment of urinary tract infections, it is concluded that the antibiotics treatment should be ordered according to performed culture and sensitivity tests to prevent the development of resistance and choosing of narrow-spectrum antibiotics in treatment should be more useful.
