Viscocanalostomy (VCS) is a new and promising surgical treatment procedure of open angle glaucoma. In this report, the long term efficacy of VCS in lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) and postoperative complications of the technique were analysed. The outcomes of 22 eyes of 21 patients underwent viscocanalostomy were evaluated. The mean follow up period was 27.50 ±14.71 months (range, 12-62). Complete success rate was defined as IOP lower than 21 mmHg without medication and qualified success rate was defined as IOP below 21 mmHg with or without medication and it was 90% (20/22). Patients with an IOP lower than 21 mmHg with medication were 22.7% (5/22). Viscocanalostomy is as effective as trabeculectomy in lowering IOP, and it lowers the risk of incidence of such complications offering a safer and more convenient option.
