Proliferating celi nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression in cutaneous keratinous neoplasms

Usually markers for proliferating cells need freshly frozen tissues for evaluation; therefore retrospective study is impossible. Proliferating celi nuclear antigen (PCNA) isapplicable to formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissues. İn this study, PCNA expression in cutaneous keratinous neoplasms were determined by immunohistochemical stain- ing using the 19A2 done. Sçuamous celi carcinoma (SCC) a unique expression of PCNA, which frequently involved the nuclei of ali keratinocytes vvithin the lesion was found. PCNA expression in verruca vulgaris (VV) and found a pattern similar to that in SCC. SCC and VV showed significantly increased numbers of PCNA positive cells when compared with other keratinocytic neoplasms.
