Surgical operations performed in 460 cases of hydatid cyst of the lung and results obtained therefrom

A series of 460 cases of hydatid cyst of the lung has been studied. Preoperative diagnosis has been made radiologically in 90<,-, of the cases. In 395 cases, cystotomy has been performed with subsequent capitonnage, while, wedge resection has been performed in 27 cases, with lobectomy in 15 cases and segment resection in 23 cases. Following a careful he-rnorrhage control, two drains have been placed in the thorax and the thoracic cavity has been closed. Recurrence occured in two cases (0.43 %), three cases resulted in exitus (0.65 %); no recurrence has been encountered in other cases as revealed by post-operative follow-up cheks within a period of theree years after operation.
