In our study; we tried to evaluate the int-raosseous route for water-electrolyte replacement and anesthetic induction with ketamine in children. 48 patients whose ages are between I and 6 years, were divided into three groups. 2 mg/kg ke-tamine intraosseous (10) in group 1; 2 mglkg ke-tamine intravenous (IV) in group II, and 6 mgike ke-tamine intramuscular (IM) in group II was used for induction. The maintenance of anesthesia in all three groups were administered with 1.5 % tsof lurane and N20. Nystagmus was considered as the begining time of induction for ketamine. During the operation the heard rate (HR), systolic arterial blood pressure (SABP) and diastolic arterial blood pressure (DABP) was recorded and the comp-lications of the intraosseous route were evaluated. When we have compaired the SABP, DABP and HR values of each group recorded during operation, it was found that there were no significant sta-tistically difference among them. As a conclusion; if the intravenous approach is impossible, the intraosseous route is a safe al-ternative for water-electrolyte replacement and in-duction with ketamine.
