We studied- the eflect of decompression methods for bacteriemia in the obstruction of small in-testine. Fourty mongrel dogs were included iız this study and the only laparotomy was peıformed in ten (control group), intestinal obstruction was per-formed irz thiı-ty hy obliterating terminal ileum 5 cm pı-oximal to the caecum using silk. After a 48 hours peı-iod, nhstruction was opened in ten, ohstruction was opened and retrograde decompression and na-sogastric aspiration was added in ten, obstruction was opened and decompression was performed hy enterotomy in ten. Blood sample was taken for blood culture 15 m.inute hefore and atter decompression procedııre. Bacteriemia hy E. coli was higher in de-compression groups than the control group which obstr-uction was opened only (p<0,05). There was no differences hetween the two decompression groups. As a result of study, we concluded that de-•ompression cause bacteriemia iıı small intestinal obstruction.
