35 rats were divided in 3 groups and resection of 80% the small bowel was performed. First group received 1 mglkgid of famotidine and second group 0.5 mglkgld omeprazole in water and third group re-ceived only tap water. Oral feeding with standart rat food initiated on first postoperative day. The weight and stool consistency were examined everyday. On 15th postoperative day alt rats were sacnfied and liv-er, stomach and ileum biopsies and blood samples for biochemical investigation were obtained. The weight and length of villi, depth of Lieberkühn crypts and the number of villi in 0.43 square mm were compared. Despite the ellect of reducing intestinal pH by blockading gastric acide secretion of famotidine and omeprazole, intestinal adaptation was not influenced in this way or direct ellect to the villi. We esta-blished that adaptation occured not by hypertrophy bul hyperplasia and provided by oral intake in early postoperative period.
