Aim: The relationship between age of onset, family history, extent of disease and serum prolactin levels of psoriasis patients were investigated. Material and method: Seventyfive psoriatic patients were enrolled for the study and 40 healthy volunteer were taken as control group. Age, sex and serum prolactin levels of the patients were recorded. The patients were questioned for family history and age of onset of psoriasis. The type, extent of psoriasis and whether the patient had artrit or not were recorded. Results: Twentytwo (29.3%) out of 75 patients with psoriasis, one patient (2.5%) in the control group had positive family history. When compared with non psoriatic patients, there was a statistically significant difference at the risk of seeing psoriasis in psoriatic patient’s other family members. Forty nine (65.3%) out of 75 psoriatic patients had early onset, 26 (34.7%) had late onset psoriasis. 21 (42.9%) of the patients with early onset psoriasis and 1 (3.8%) of the patients with late onset psoriasis had positive family histories. Fourteen (66.7%) out of 21 patients with early onset familial psoriasis had extensive disease, whereas 7 (25.0%) out of 28 patients with early onset sporadic psoriasis had extensive disease. When compared with patients who had early onset sporadic psoriasis, patients with early onset familial psoriasis had a higher risk of having extensive disease. High prolactin levels were detected only in 3 female patients in the psoriatic group. All of the patients in the control group had normal serum prolactin levels. Conclusion: There was not a statistically significant difference at serum prolactin levels when sex matched pairs of control and psoriasis group were compared.
