Travmaya bağlı diafragma hernisi ilk olarak Sennertus tarafındaıı 1541 yılında tarif edilmiştir. 1579 yılında da Ambrose Pare iki adet travmatik diafragma yırtığı tarif etmiştir. Delici bir aletle yaralanmaya bağlı ilk diafragma operasyonu ise 1886 yılında Riolfi tarafından gerçekleştirilmiştir (5).
