Bu araştırma 1 Ağustos 1969 ile 1 Ocak 1981 tarihleri arasında D.Ü.T.F. Genel Cerrahi Kliniğinde çeşitli nedenlerle kolostomi uygulanan 247 yaka üzerinde yapılmıştır. Hastalarımızın 200'ü (% 81) erkek. 47'si (% 19) kadındır. Yaş ortalaması 39'dur. 247 kolostomi olgusunun 196'sında (% 79,3) acil, 51'inde (% 20,7) ise elektif olarak kolostomi uygulanmıştır. 109 olguda (% 44,2) barsak tıkanması. 64 hastada (% 25,9) kolorektal yaralanma. 30 vakada (% 12,2) ise kolorektal kanser en sık rastlanan kolostomi nedenleridir. 248 kolostominin 193'ü (% 77.8) geçici, 55'i (% 22,2) devamlı kolostomidir. Tüm kolostomilerin 85'i (% 34.3) Hartmann, 52'si (c7c 21) sigmoid, 41'i (% 16,5) sağ transvers. 25'i (%10,1) sol transvers, 17'si (% 6,8) sigmoid uç, 16'sı (% 6.5) çekostomi, 12'si (% 4,8) ise çifte namlusu tipinde kolostomi idi. 248 hastanın 76'sında (% 30,8) 114 postoperatif komplikasyon saptandı. Bunların 24'ü (% 21,1) kolostomi ile ilgili ciddi komplikasyonlardı. 247 kolostomilinin 86'si (%34.8) çeşitli nedenlerle kaybedildi.
