Lokal anesteziklerin tarihçesi 1860 lara dayanmasına rağmen komplikasyonları güncelliğini korumaktadır. Tamamıyla tehlikesiz kabul edilebilecek lokal anestezik ajan yoktur. Bu. ajanlar uygun dozlarda, gerekli önlemler (uygun premedikasyon ve komplikasyonlara müdahale imkanları) alındıktan sonra tatbik edilmeli ve vaktinde gerekli tedavi yapılamadığı takdirde komplikasyonların ölüme yol açabileceği unutulmamalıdır.
