\n Lokal ileri evre rektum kanseri (LİRK), onkolojide multidisipliner tedavi yaklaşımlarının ortak işbirliği sonucu etkili tedavi sonuçların elde edilebildiği en iyi örneklerinden birisidir. Her ne kadar, radyoterapi ile kombine tedavi yaklaşımlarıyla hem lokal-sistemik rekürrensler hem de sağkalım açısından başarı oranlarında artış olsa da LİRK’ de esas tedavi halen radikal cerrahidir. Günümüzde preoperatif RT’ nin postoperatif RT’ ye göre daha üstün olduğu gösterilmiştir. Bu derlemede preoperatif RT’ nin uygulanma yöntemleri, avantaj ve dezavantajları değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır.
