Hipofız hormonlarından Adrenokortikotropik hormon (ACTH) ve Melanofor Stimulan Honnon'a (ot, B-MSH) ait peptidler kısaca MELANOKORTİN PEPTİD`ler olarak nitelendirilmektedir. Bu hor-monlann amino asit zincirleri endorfin ile birlikte biyolojik olarak inaktif elcildeki büyük prekürsör polipeptid proopiomelanokortin (POMC) molekülü içinde bulunmaktadır. POMC molekülü içinde ot, B-MSH ve ACTH1_36'nın tam zinciri ekle edilmiştir
