Yaklaşık bir yaşında, Yeni Zelanda tipi tavşanların medulla spinaliselerinin servikal segmentlerinden transvers kesitler alındı ve bunlar myelin ve Nissl boyaları ile boyandı. Kesitlerin ışık mikroskobu ile incelenmesi sonucunda medulla spinalis'de dokuz lamina olduğu tespit edildi. Bu laminalardan altısının dorsal boynuzda, geri kalan üçünün ise ventral boynuzda bulunduğu görüldü.
