48 nodüler guatr olgusuna ince iğne aspirasyon biopsisi uygulanmış, sitolojik sonuçlar histopatolo-jik tanılarla karşılaştırılarak ince iğne aspirasyon bi-opsisinin sensitivite, spesifisite ve tanısal doğruluk oranları ortaya konmuştur. Bu bulguların ışığında ince iğne aspirasyon biopsisi sitolojisinin tiroid nodüllerinin natürünün saptanmasında güvenilir bir yöntem olduğu ve be-nign tiroid hastalıkları nedeni ile yapılan gereksiz tiroidektomi işlemlerini azaltma yönünde kullanılması gerektiği vurgulanmıştır.
