Trakea üzerine ilk müdahale (trakeostomi) ile ilgili bilimsel kayıt M.Ö. 100 tarihlerinde Asclepidias tarafından yapılmıştır (28). 1881 yılında Gluk ve Zeller tarafından deneysel olarak köpekte gerçekleştirilmiş olan trakea reanastomozunu takiben, 1885 yılında Kuester tarafından bir trakea striktürü yakasında rezeksiyon ve başarılı bir reanastomoz uygulanmıştır (28).
