The aim of this study is to analyse the results of diagnosis and treatment of esophageal foreign bodies which may cause mortality and morbidity. 27 patients who had rigid esophagoscopy with the diagnosis of esophageal foreign bodies in our clinic between May 2011 and September 2012 were evaluated according to age, gender, the complaint at the arrival, the type and the localization of the foreign bodies, additional treatments and time of hospital stay retrospectively. Of 27 patients included in this study; 12 (44,4%) were male and 15 (55,6%) were female. Mean age was 16,1. The complaints at arrival were sore throat in 10 (37,1%), dysphagia in 9 (33,3%), hypersalivation in 5 (18,5%) and dyspnea in 1 (7,4%) whereas 2 (7,4%) patients had no complaints. Esophagoscopy didn’t show any foreign bodies in 4 (14,8) cases and most of the foreign bodies detected in esophagus were bones (n=11) and metal coins (n=7). Mean time of hospital stay was calculated as 1,55 days and there was no mortality. Early diagnosis and treatment of esophageal foreign bodies is essential to avoid from serious and fatal complications which may ocur. An early performed esophagoscopy is the reliable and effective treatment method for this purpose.
