Bu çalışmada rat uterusunda fertilizasyondan sonra erken dönemde mast hücre sayisı araştırıldı. Erken gebelikte mast hücre sayısı azalmanın farkedildigi belirli bir noktaya kadar arttı. Azalmanın maternal kaynaklı olabileceğinin yanı sıra blastokistin de bu etkiden sorumlu tutulabileceği ve bu azalmanın implantasyonla ilişkili olduğu düşünüldü.
